The four-month “Escalation” phase — covering January through April — has delivered steady updates so far. Headwinds brought solo vs. squad matchmaking, Shrouded Sky introduced hurricane-force winds that mess with grenades and shield durability, and Flashpoint is adding new ARC threats in March. But all of it has been building to one thing.
April’s Riven Tides update is the biggest drop on the roadmap by a wide margin — and if the concept art and community speculation are anything to go by, it might change how Arc Raiders is played entirely.
Arc Raiders Riven Tides: Release Date, New Map, and Everything Confirmed
Riven Tides is the name of the April 2026 update for Arc Raiders, and it’s confirmed to bring a brand-new map to the Rust Belt — the first one since Stella Montis launched back in November 2025. The update also comes with a new large ARC boss, a new map condition, and an Expedition Window for players looking to retire their Raider.
The name itself is a strong clue. “Tides” points directly toward water, and everything we’ve seen from early concept art and roadmap imagery backs that up. This will be Arc Raiders’ first water-adjacent map, which is a significant shift from the game’s existing environments — all of which are inland.

Riven Tides Concept Art: Oil Rigs, Sunken Rockets, and a Coastal City
Embark Studios art director Esbjörn Nord shared early development art pieces that give the clearest look at what Riven Tides could look like. These aren’t finalized assets — they’re exploratory work from the game’s development phase — but given how closely Arc Raiders’ other maps matched their early art direction, they’re worth paying close attention to.
One image shows a city designed almost like a flower, with districts radiating outward into open water. The layout has serious verticality to it, including underground sections near the waterline and elevated highways built over the sea. For a game built around snap hooks and zip lines, that kind of terrain is nearly tailor-made for aggressive traversal plays.
Another piece reveals what looks like a large oil rig, rendered in the industrial-meets-sci-fi aesthetic that Arc Raiders does so well. It appears from multiple angles in the concept art, which suggests it could be a major point of interest rather than background scenery.
Then there’s the one that really caught the community’s attention: a massive rocket ship lying on its side, half-submerged in water. If that structure is fully traversable — and there’s no reason to think it wouldn’t be — firefights inside a half-flooded spaceship wreck would be unlike anything currently in the game.
Where Is the Riven Tides Map Located in the Rust Belt?
Players have been placing Riven Tides on the game’s overworld map, and the leading theory points to the southern coastline near the volcano — an area that’s currently the largest unexplored section of the Rust Belt. There’s even a visible crater just east of the volcano that matches structures seen in Nord’s concept art.
If this is correct, Riven Tides would fill a gap on the map that’s been sitting there since launch — and it would make sense from a world-building perspective. A coastal zone near an active volcano opens up some genuinely wild possibilities: volcanic rock formations meeting the shoreline, steam vents, geothermal hazards mixed with ocean spray.
Arc Raiders Riven Tides Map Condition: Flooding, Storms, or Something Worse?
Every major Arc Raiders update has come with a map condition that changes how raids feel. Headwinds had Bird City, where actual flocks of birds dive-bombed players and left nest loot in chimneys. Shrouded Sky introduced the Hurricane — directional wind mechanics that affect movement speed, grenade arcs, and jumping, plus airborne debris that degrades shields over time.
For Riven Tides, the map condition is almost certainly water-based. The community’s best guesses include:
- Tidal flooding — zones of the map that become inaccessible or harder to traverse as water levels rise and fall
- Ocean storms — reduced visibility from fog rolling in off the water, similar to the Hurricane condition but coastal
- Flooded extraction points — some exits getting cut off, forcing players to adapt their routes mid-raid
None of this is confirmed, but the pattern Embark has established makes it clear the map condition will be tied directly to the environment’s theme. Water is the theme here, and the Rust Belt tends to make things dangerous.
Riven Tides New ARC Boss: Is the Bishop Finally Coming to Arc Raiders?
This is the part the community is most excited about — and also the most speculative.
Arc Raiders has established a clear pattern with its large ARC bosses: the Queen and the Matriarch were both major encounters that required coordinated play to take down, and both dropped unique legendary weapon blueprints as rewards. The Matriarch dropped the Aphelion. Following that logic, Riven Tides’ boss should come with its own legendary weapon tied to the coastal environment.
One name keeps coming up in community discussions: the Bishop. In early internal playtests — before any public beta access — there were records of a large ARC boss called the Bishop, and the fight reportedly involved players using jetpacks to land on it and destroy specific weak points. Jetpacks were eventually cut from the game entirely, so if the Bishop does return in Riven Tides, Embark would have had to reimagine the encounter from scratch for ground-based play.
Whether it’s the Bishop or something new, the community is expecting the Riven Tides boss to be the hardest fight in the game at launch.
How Arc Raiders Riven Tides Will Change the Meta
The existing Arc Raiders maps are all inland environments. Dam Battlegrounds, Acerra Spaceport, Buried City, Blue Gate, Stella Montis — they share a common tactical vocabulary. You learn the sightlines, the extraction routes, the ARC patrol patterns. Raiders who put in the hours know exactly where to go and how to move.
A coastal map with water mechanics blows all of that up.
Water changes movement options in ways that no other terrain modifier has done so far. If players can enter water at all — and the concept art strongly implies they can — it introduces an entire new risk-reward calculation around extraction routes, flanking paths, and hiding spots. Even if water functions as an instant-death zone, the presence of cliffs, piers, docks, and shoreline structures means the verticality of Riven Tides will require a completely different approach to positioning.
The naval infrastructure alone — shipyards, docked vessels, cargo containers, beached wrecks — gives the map a density of interesting combat spaces that could make it one of the most replayable in the game.
Arc Raiders 2026 Roadmap: What Riven Tides Means for the Rest of the Year
Embark has said explicitly that multiple new maps are coming in 2026, and that they’ll vary in size. Riven Tides is just the first. The studio has also committed to monthly content drops throughout the year, which is a genuinely ambitious cadence for a live-service game that only costs $40 upfront — no battle pass, no subscription.
The Escalation roadmap has been delivering on that promise so far. Each update has added something that changes how the Rust Belt feels without overhauling the game’s core loop. Riven Tides is where the scale of that promise really gets tested, though. A new map is the heaviest lift in live-service development, and a water-adjacent environment is the most technically complex thing Embark has tried to add to Arc Raiders yet.
The question isn’t whether Riven Tides will be good. The question is whether it’ll shake up the meta enough to bring lapsed players back — and keep current ones grinding through April.
