PoE 2 Liquid Verisium Guide (0.5.4): How to Unlock, Buy, and Actually Use It

Patch 0.5.4 rebuilt Expedition from the ground up, and Liquid Verisium is the currency sitting at the center of it. If you’ve seen the name pop up in trade chat or the Currency Exchange and you’re not sure what it actually does, you’re not alone — half the threads about it are people asking if they just wasted a stack of Verisium for nothing.

Short version: Liquid Verisium lets you reroll a Remnant encounter instead of taking whatever the game hands you. That sounds simple, but the cost adds up fast, and there’s no preview before you commit. Buying it blind is how people end up with 24,000 Verisium gone and barely anything to show for it.

This guide covers what Liquid Verisium actually does, how to unlock it, when it’s worth spending on, and how it fits into the new Expedition Atlas Passive Tree that came with it.

What Is Liquid Verisium in PoE 2?

Liquid Verisium is a new currency item added in patch 0.5.4. Using it immediately starts a Runic Remnant Encounter with a random Runic Inscription, which is the game’s way of letting you reroll a Remnant’s rewards — the rune slot count, the reward type, and its modifiers — before you detonate it.

It’s not a crafting orb you slam on gear. Think of it as a reroll ticket for one specific type of Expedition encounter, and the outcome is still random. There’s no way to lock in a guaranteed result.

How to Unlock and Buy Liquid Verisium

You can’t just walk up and buy it on day one. There are two steps:

  1. Allocate the Feeling Lucky? notable on the new Expedition Atlas Passive Tree
  2. Head to Farrow, the vendor stationed near the Verisium Anvil in your hideout, and trade raw Verisium for it

The exchange rate is 600 raw Verisium per unit of Liquid Verisium. Raw Verisium itself comes mainly from defeating Verisium Remnants out in the field, plus a smaller amount from the Starlit Rite quest in the Lost Catacombs.

The Bulk-Buy Trap: Why You Shouldn't Rush In

This is the part players keep getting wrong. The Currency Exchange lets you dump a huge pile of Verisium at once, and plenty of people have done exactly that — trading over 24,000 Verisium in one go and walking away with a small handful of Liquid Verisium units, because the reward is random every single time and there’s no bulk discount or bonus for buying in volume.

Buy it a few units at a time as you need it. There’s no upside to stockpiling Verisium into one massive exchange, and every unit you convert is a gamble on its own.

The New Expedition Atlas Passive Tree, Explained

Liquid Verisium exists because of the bigger change in 0.5.4: Expedition now has its own dedicated Atlas Passive Tree, separate from the main Atlas tree. It’s unlocked by progressing The Grand Expedition questline and defeating its bosses, which hands you points to spend on notables and smaller nodes tied specifically to Verisium Remnants and Expedition encounters.

A few things worth knowing before you start allocating points:

If you want... Prioritize
Access to Liquid Verisium Feeling Lucky? notable
More consistent Remnant density Nodes that increase Remnant spawn rate
Bigger payouts per run Runic modifier scaling nodes
An easier time clearing encounters Fewer difficulty-scaling nodes until your build can handle tankier monsters

That last point matters more than it sounds. Stacking too many reward-boosting nodes early makes monsters noticeably tougher, and a build that can’t clear the encounter cleanly won’t see the extra rewards anyway. Among the available biomes, Desert tends to perform best for straightforward currency farming.

Is Liquid Verisium Worth Buying?

It depends on how deep into Expedition you already are.

Buy it if:

  • You’re actively farming Expedition as your main strategy
  • You can replace 600 Verisium within a map or two without it hurting your run
  • You want a shot at rerolling a weak Remnant into something with better modifiers, Logbooks, or Divine Orbs

Skip it if:

  • You’re only running Expedition occasionally alongside other content
  • Verisium is tight and you need it for other Runeforging costs
  • You haven’t unlocked the Expedition Atlas Tree yet, since the reroll won’t do much without the supporting nodes behind it

For a casual runner, it’s usually better to just play the Remnants you find rather than gambling on rerolls.

The Full 0.5.4 Expedition Farming Loop

Putting it all together, a typical run looks like this: push into Grand Expeditions on the Desert biome, clear Verisium Remnants as they spawn, bank raw Verisium along the way, and spend it on Liquid Verisium once you’ve got Feeling Lucky? unlocked and a build that can handle the tougher packs. Some players report pulling well over a dozen Divine Orbs from a single well-juiced Grand Expedition map, though results swing hard depending on your tablet setup and how far you’ve built out the tree.

It’s not a beginner-friendly farm. You need a decent Atlas investment and a character that can survive denser, harder-hitting encounters before it really pays off.

Don't Want to Farm It Yourself?

If your build isn’t ready for juiced Expeditions, or you’d rather skip the grind entirely, you can pick up Divine Orbs and other PoE 2 currency directly, or hand off the whole Expedition farm to a team that already knows the routes and the tree.
