The gear stats alone are strong, but the set bonuses are the real reason people push through Hyjal and Black Temple instead of settling for random raid drops. Two pieces usually unlock a smaller passive buff, and four pieces unlocks something that noticeably changes how your class plays.

A Warrior tank running the four-piece Onslaught Armor bonus gets a real damage boost on a core cooldown. A Mage running four-piece Tempest sees a direct increase to their main damage spells. These aren’t small numbers on a tooltip nobody checks, they’re bonuses that raid leaders expect by the time your guild starts pushing Sunwell Plateau.
