Marathon C.A.R.R.I. Event Guide: What It Is, How It Works, and What You Can Earn

C.A.R.R.I. is a limited-time seasonal event confirmed for Marathon’s Season 1, Death Is the First Step. Bungie listed it on the official roadmap published March 3, 2026, alongside a new weapon and an expanded implant pool.

Season 1 runs from March 5 to June 2026. The event drops mid-season, after Ranked mode and the Cryo Archive unlock — making it one of the last major content additions before the seasonal wipe.

What Is the Marathon C.A.R.R.I. Event?

C.A.R.R.I. is a limited-time in-season event in Marathon’s Season 1. Bungie confirmed it on the official roadmap as a standalone seasonal drop, bundled with a new weapon and a larger implant pool.

It fits into Marathon’s existing event structure: mid-run objectives that activate on the map, visible to all teams in the instance, rewarding loot to players who complete them. Marathon already runs events this way — the Anomalous Matter event on Dire Marsh, boss encounters on each map, the multi-stage Lockdown on Outpost. C.A.R.R.I. sits in that same design space, with its own objectives and a seasonal narrative layer on top.

Like all Season 1 content, it’s free for every player who owns the base game.

When Does the C.A.R.R.I. Event Go Live in Season 1?

The event is confirmed for Season 1, with the full content calendar rolling out in stages:

  • March 5 — Game launch, Season 1 begins
  • Late March — Ranked mode launches
  • Community milestone — Cryo Archive unlocks after players collectively reach the UESC Marathon ship in orbit
  • Mid-to-late Season 1 — C.A.R.R.I. event goes live
  • June 2026 — Season 1 ends, full progression wipe

Bungie is spacing out seasonal content across the full three-month window. C.A.R.R.I. drops in the mid-to-late portion of the season — after Ranked mode, after Cryo Archive.

How Does the C.A.R.R.I. Event Work in Marathon?

C.A.R.R.I. is an in-run seasonal event — it activates during a live raid, on the map, without a separate matchmaking queue. This is how all major events in Marathon work.

Here’s how Marathon’s in-run event format plays out:

  • A timed objective or encounter spawns on the map during a run
  • Players interact with it mid-raid alongside their normal looting and extraction goals
  • Completing the event rewards loot that scales with how far through it you get
  • Every other team in the instance sees the event too — which means direct competition

The Anomalous Matter event on Dire Marsh is the clearest reference point. A blue icon appears on the map after the 15-minute mark. You interact with a distortion field, extract and purify a sample, and walk out with a temporal artifact worth 2,000 credits per squad member — if you can hold your position against incoming teams. C.A.R.R.I. runs on the same in-run logic, with its own objectives tied to Season 1’s story.

What Rewards Can You Earn from the C.A.R.R.I. Event?

The confirmed rewards tied to C.A.R.R.I.:

  • A new weapon added to Marathon’s loot pool
  • An expanded implant pool

Season 1 events also reward:

  • Earnable cosmetics through the Codex
  • Achievements
  • Narrative Codex entries

The key part of Marathon’s reward system: gear resets at the end of every season, cosmetics don’t. Anything cosmetic you earn during C.A.R.R.I. stays in your account permanently after the Season 1 wipe in June.

Reward Type Carries Over After Season Wipe?
Cosmetics (earned or purchased) Yes — permanent
Achievements Yes — permanent
Codex progress Yes — permanent
Weapons and gear No — wiped at season end
Faction and contract progress No — wiped at season end

The new weapon is yours for the rest of Season 1. Cosmetics are yours for good.

How to Prepare for the C.A.R.R.I. Event in Marathon

Build your faction rank.
Faction upgrades unlock stronger starting loadouts and better Armory gear. The higher your standing before the event drops, the better your Runner's baseline going in.
Work through your Codex.
Codex entries give cosmetics and lore tied to Season 1's narrative. Progress you build now counts toward any Codex rewards the event adds.
Get comfortable with in-run events.
The Anomalous Matter event on Dire Marsh, the boss encounters, the multi-stage content on Outpost — run them. C.A.R.R.I. uses the same format. Players who already know how to complete a contested in-run objective under PvP pressure have a real advantage.
Keep gear in your vault.
Event content in Marathon rewards players who arrive prepared. Farm your loadout before the event window opens.

C.A.R.R.I. and the Full Season 1 Content Calendar

Season 1 has been rolling out in stages since launch, and C.A.R.R.I. is the last major confirmed drop before the June wipe.

The Cryo Archive — Marathon’s endgame zone aboard the UESC Marathon ship in orbit above Tau Ceti IV — is the season’s headline addition. It requires a community-wide progression milestone to unlock and features raid-style security puzzles, sealed vaults, and a high-tier enemy encounter. Ranked mode, live since late March, added competitive ladder progression with exclusive cosmetic rewards based on end-of-season placement.

C.A.R.R.I. comes after both. It brings the only confirmed new weapon outside of launch content, which matters for anyone building toward the strongest loadout before the wipe.

All of it — Cryo Archive, Ranked, C.A.R.R.I., the new weapon — is included in the base game. Bungie confirmed that every seasonal gameplay addition in Marathon is free for all players. No paid expansions, no DLC.

Does the C.A.R.R.I. Event Carry Over Into Marathon Season 2?

The event is Season 1-specific. When Season 1 ends in June 2026, gear and progression reset across the board.

What carries over: cosmetics you earned, achievements you unlocked, and Codex progress. These are permanent across every season in Marathon. Gear resets. Account rewards don’t.

Season 2 — Nightfall — runs June through August 2026. It brings a nighttime variant of Dire Marsh, a new Runner shell, the Cradle stat customization system, new weapons, and new contracts.
