Gruul’s Lair is one of the fastest raids in TBC Classic Anniversary, but a fast raid is only fast when your group actually knows what it’s doing. Most PUGs still burn an hour wiping on the Maulgar pull or losing half the raid to Shatter on Gruul, and by the time they finally clear it, the lockout feels more like a chore than a reward.
Gruul's Lair Boost — TBC Classic Anniversary Carry
Our Gruul’s Lair boost skips that part. A dedicated team clears both bosses on your character, you get your Tier 4 tokens and loot, and your weekly lockout is done without the wipes, the drama, or the three-hour PUG that falls apart at 40%.
Whether you want a guaranteed item through DST Prio or a straightforward full clear with DST Not Prio, you pick the option that fits your gearing plan and we handle the run.
What Is Gruul's Lair in TBC Classic?
Gruul’s Lair sits in Blade’s Edge Mountains and is one of three Phase 1 raids in TBC Classic Anniversary, alongside Karazhan and Magtheridon’s Lair. It’s built for 25 players, level 70, and unlike the original TBC release, the Anniversary edition drops the attunement requirement entirely. You can queue up and walk in without any prep quests.
The raid only has two bosses, High King Maulgar and Gruul the Dragonkiller, which makes it one of the shortest raids in the game. A clean run takes under an hour. That short length is exactly why it’s such a popular weekly stop — two boss kills, two chances at Tier 4 gear, done before you’d even finish clearing trash in a longer raid.
Don’t let the short length fool you into thinking it’s an easy walk. Maulgar’s fight punishes bad add control hard, and Gruul is a pure execution check where the raid either kills him fast enough or watches the fight spiral out of control. Plenty of fresh groups still wipe here weekly.
Gruul's Lair Boss Guide: Maulgar & Gruul Strategy
Both encounters ask for something different from the raid. Maulgar is about coordination and interrupts. Gruul is about raw damage output and staying alive while it climbs. Here’s what actually makes each fight tick.
High King Maulgar Kill Order & Strategy
Maulgar doesn’t fight alone. He brings four council members into the room, and the entire encounter lives or dies on how the pull goes. Get the adds under control fast and the fight is manageable. Let even one add run loose and the raid can unravel in seconds.
The standard approach kills the healer first, Blindeye the Seer, since he can undo all your progress with a well-timed heal. From there the raid works through Olm the Summoner, then Krosh Firehand and Kiggler the Crazed, before finally turning everything on Maulgar himself. Krosh needs a mage on him if you want to steal his spell shield, and Kiggler goes down fastest to ranged DPS or a boomkin who can shrug off his polymorph.
Maulgar himself hits like a truck. Whirlwind punishes melee who don’t step out in time, and once he drops to 50% health, he starts charging, fearing, and speeding up his attacks. A well-geared tank with steady healing support gets through it fine, but this is where undergeared PUGs usually start losing people.
Gruul the Dragonkiller: Growth Stacks & Shatter Mechanic
Gruul is simpler to explain but harder to execute. Every 30 seconds his Growth stack ticks up, and with it his damage goes up too. The fight is a race against the clock — kill him before Growth makes him unhealable, which usually happens around the eight-minute mark.
Positioning matters as much as DPS here. The raid spreads out around him to limit damage from Cave In, and everyone needs to watch for Ground Slam, which stacks Gronn Lord’s Grasp on players standing too close together. Stack five of those and you’re stunned right before Shatter goes off, which deals damage based on how tightly grouped you are. Spread out fast after the knockback or people start dying in a hurry.
None of this is complicated on paper. What actually separates a clean Gruul kill from a wipe is whether your raid has the sustained DPS to beat the timer and the discipline to keep spreading every single time. A boosted run means you skip the guesswork and just get the kill.
Gruul's Lair Loot Table: Tier 4 Tokens & Best Items
Gruul’s Lair is one of the main sources of Tier 4 gear in Phase 1, and that’s the real reason people run it every week. Maulgar drops the shoulder token, Gruul drops the leg token, and both are handed in at Shattrath to complete your class set alongside Karazhan and Magtheridon’s Lair drops.
| Token | Dropped By | Slot | Classes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pauldrons of the Fallen Hero | High King Maulgar | Shoulders | Hunter, Mage, Warlock |
| Pauldrons of the Fallen Champion | High King Maulgar | Shoulders | Paladin, Rogue, Shaman |
| Pauldrons of the Fallen Defender | High King Maulgar | Shoulders | Druid, Priest, Warrior |
| Leggings of the Fallen Hero | Gruul the Dragonkiller | Legs | Hunter, Mage, Warlock |
| Leggings of the Fallen Champion | Gruul the Dragonkiller | Legs | Paladin, Rogue, Shaman |
| Leggings of the Fallen Defender | Gruul the Dragonkiller | Legs | Druid, Priest, Warrior |
Outside the tier tokens, Gruul’s Lair also drops a handful of items that stay strong well past Phase 1. Dragonspine Trophy is the standout, a trinket that plenty of physical DPS classes still use deep into later phases. Bloodmaw Magus-Blade and Axe of the Gronn Lords cover casters and melee weapon slots, Aldori Legacy Defender is a solid shield option for tanks, and Eye of Gruul and Teeth of Gruul round out the trinket and neck slots for anyone still gearing up early.
Getting any of these isn’t just about killing the boss. You’re also competing with 24 other players for the same drop, which is exactly the kind of problem a Loot Priority option solves.

Why Buy Gruul's Lair Carry From CarryLord
A PUG run is a gamble. You don’t know if the tank can hold aggro through Maulgar’s charge, whether the raid leader actually explains the Shatter mechanic before the pull, or if half the group disappears after the second wipe. Our team clears this raid the same way every time, with players who know the pulls, the positioning, and the timing on Gruul’s enrage without needing a five-minute explanation first.
Your account stays yours the whole time. We don’t ask for anything beyond what’s needed to run the boost, loot rules are set before we start, and you know exactly what you’re getting before you pay. No surprises, no “we’ll see what drops and figure it out later.”
Speed matters here too. Because Gruul’s Lair only has two bosses, our runs move fast, and your weekly lockout gets used the way it should — on a clean kill with real loot, not a wasted night watching a raid fall apart.
